Investor Bill Ackman wants to change the board of Fortune Brands, the company that is parent to Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark, which some experts predict will lead to the break-up of the conglomerate.
The head honcho behind Pershing Square Capital Management, probably wants the congolmerate to break up some brands in the spirits business.
Ackman holds an 11% stake in the company, which is the old-school combination of seemingly disassociated businesses.
Fortune is in these businesses:
- spirits
- golf equipment
- home and home-security businesses ( Moen and Masterlock)
- kitchen cabinet
The most obvious buyers of FB’s liquor businesses are drinks giants Diageo and Pernod Ricard of France. Gruppo Campari, which owns Wild Turkey and Bacardi would also be interested in acquiring some new labels.
