Kentucky Distillers Take Tom Moore and Buffalo Trace to Court

The Kentucky Distillers’ Association is peeved at the makers of Tom Moore and Buffalo Trace bourbon because of their use of “bourbon trail” on promotional items.

They are asking a federal judge to prohibit parent company Sazerac to stop using the phrase to promote Buffalo Trace and Tom Moore.

The association claims this  violates four trademarks held by the association related to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, a cluster of distilleries in central Kentucky.

The association sued Sazerac in U.S. District Court in Louisville on Monday.

Sazerac was once a member of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, but resigned in January and the association says the company no longer has the right to use the phrase.
