Review: R&S Barbeque, Monroe County, Tomkinsville

rs2bbq

The wonderful thing about having eight or so barbeque joints in such a small county like Monroe County, Kentucky is that you are never far from more good barbecue.

OK, I will admit it early on. I ate two barbeque meals in 90 minutes.

I asked Randy at Backyard BBQ where else I should go in Monroe County for good Q, that was close by, because time was fleeting.

He said R & S was right on the way, but I better hurry because it was getting close to 7:00 p.m. and they might be low on food.

He was right. They were low on food.

Not only that, I was low on camera battery juice. I grabbed a picture on supposedly a dead battery hoping it would turn out OK. (It didn’t)

I then hustled my butt to the front door hoping that would turn out OK.

Anita greeted me at the door, just getting ready to lock up. I pleaded my case by dropping Randy’s name and recommendation. She was pretty flabbergasted so she pulled together a “sampler” for me of pork butt, pork shoulder, pulled pork, beans and vinegar slaw.

They had already cleaned up inside and asked if I minded making it “to go.”

No problem for me because it was a beautiful spring evening and Anita and her husband and daughter joined me outside to watch the world go by.

Yeah, I’ll be going back. If the leftovers were this good, then the early day cooking must be spectactular.
