It’s Bourbon and Branch for a Good Reason

Mixing bourbon is acceptable in many circles, but when sipping fine Kentucky bourbon, why mess up a great taste? Let the ice work it’s magic.
Tamar Fleishman suggests that Knob Creek with vanilla Coke is a fine drink.
I am a Kentucky Colonel and have tasted many “fine aged Kentucky bourbon whiskeys,” as “my” Colonel, Col. Michael Edward Masters would say. The next time you are at a fine restaurant or tavern, try a flight of 3 different bourbons. You can try them straight, with ice, or with “branch” — good, clean non-mineralized spring water.
I’ve also interviewed Fred Noe, of the Jim Beam family. He says that a cocktail — contrary to popular belief — deserves the best spirits. His mom likes Knob Creek with Coke. Knob Creek has a vanilla character. It is also good with vanilla Coke!
Who am I to argue with Fred Noe. Of course an excellent cocktail demands excellent liquor. But mixing Bourbon and Coke isn’t really a “cocktail” even if that’s what he serves his Mom.
My thinking is that if you don’t like the taste of Kentucky Bourbon, you might try a Canadian Blend or other milder fare.
(And I’m a Kentucky Colonel too, so this is offered with respect to Tamar!)

Awww… LOL Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
Vanilla Coke and bourbon go together well. Also, I like Ale-8-One with bourbon, too… but both drinks are enhanced greatly with the addition of crushed ice, like they used to serve at the Col.’s BBQ. Also, DeAnne Elmore at Ale-8-One says the crushed iced is used in an Ale-8-One and bourbon drink at Churchill Downs.
I have tried American Honey bourbon, but not the hot toddy that you suggest. I will, though!
Rachel Maddow suggests making your hot toddy with hot Earl Grey tea, a honey simple syrup, juice of half a fresh lemon, bourbon, and rum, which is very good. Also, I tried a hot toddy in Gettysburg made with brown sugar instead of honey, and that was excellent!
Cheers,
Tamar

You are right, I should try it first! You sold me. And thanks for the tip from Rachael Maddow.
