The River Road Scenic Byway Project has been chosen by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to receive $250,000 in federal funding.
The money will be used to buy right-of-way along River Road from Glenview Avenue to Harrods Creek.
The scenic byway runs seven miles, from Zorn Avenue to the U.S. 42 intersection in Prospect. The project will enhance safety along the road by adding bicycle facilities.
The 283-mile Bluegrass, Blues and BBQ Scenic Byway, which passes through Hancock, Daviess, Henderson, Union, Webster, McLean, Muhlenberg, Hopkins and Ohio counties, also has been chosen to receive federal funding. A total of $97,000 will be allocated for of an audiovisual interpretive media. The byway’s historical significance will be promoted through podcasts, DVD, CD and a Web site, the transportation cabinet said in a news release.
“This is an opportunity to protect a natural scenic resource, promote tourism, foster associated economic development and potential of some of our less-traveled roads,” Gov. Steve Beshear said in the release.
